Gov’t. Welcomes Autopsy On Journalist

By Alex Yomah
The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Justice has instructed family members of fallen journalist Zenu Miller not to remove his remains from the mortuary until an independent autopsy is performed.
Making the disclosure on Tuesday during the Executive Mansion’s regular update, the Presidential Press Secretary, Isaac Solo Kelgbeh, said government’s action was triggered by the rampant insinuations that the journalist who died 20 days after he had alleged that some Executive Protection Service (EPS) officers manhandled him thus leading to his death as a result of internal bleeding.
Mr. Kelgbeh said government has already formally informed the fallen journalist’s family to bring into the country a pathology of their choice to perform an autopsy and that the government will fully underwrite the cost.
“The family has been given the chance to identify their own pathology to perform the autopsy from any country of their choice,” President George Weah Chief Spokesman said.
He said, the Ministry of Justice is mandated to work along to ensure that this done because probably the autopsy will help to allay some of the allusions being made against government on the social media and in other pockets of the society.
Solo, as he is affectionately call said, contrast to what is being said about the government being insensitive to the fallen journalist’s allegation before his demise, the government has been working behind scenes with the Press Union of Liberia’s president, Charles Coffey, and other officials to ensure that the allegations made by the fallen journalist is authentic.
The Presidential Press Secretary said even though the late Zenu did not write a formal complaint against the EPS, but only flagged the allegation in his social media post; he (Solo) called him aimed at finding out what actually went on with him and the EPS and what were his initial plans in seeking justice if his allegation was proven.
Expressing his displeasure over the wide-spreading whispers against the government, Solo said not one of those making claims and counterclaims surrounding the death of the fallen journalist have been able to provide video evidence depicting the action which is claimed to have occurred in an open space.
He disclosed that that on December 24, 2019 which was far from the National County Meet Finals, in which the fallen Liberian journalist alleged that he was beaten, he posted on his own page that he needed prayers without further details.
Up to now, no advocate has asked what was happening to him (Zenu) when he made public his request for prayers but because of political reasons, he said people are making lots of wild-cat allegations.
Since the death of Zenu on February 15, friends, sympathizers and some members of the Press Union of Liberia have been blaming his death on the incident he alleged was carried out by the EPS and following the hospital where he was pronounced dead cause of death resulting to hypertension, there are more calls for an autopsy on his remains.
