The House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Judiciary, Internal Affairs, and Ways, Means, and Finance to review three draft bills seeking to establish new local government structures in Grand Cape Mount County.
The decision was made during the House’s 8th-day sitting of the first quarter of the second session on Thursday.
The move follows a formal communication from Rep. Gbessie Sonii Feika, Representative of Electoral District 3, Grand Cape Mount County, submitting the proposed legislative enactments for consideration.
The draft bills under review include: An Act to Create the City of Tieni within Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County, an Act to Create the Township of Matambo within Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County and An Act to Create the Township of Meimassa within Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County.
Following the reading of the draft bills, Prince Koinah moved that the documents be noted and considered as their first reading in line with the House’s rules and procedures. Plenary, in turn, instructed the relevant committees to conduct a thorough review and report back within two weeks for further legislative action.
The review process will focus on assessing the feasibility, legal implications, and financial requirements associated with the proposed municipal structures; if enacted, these laws would facilitate the formal establishment of the city and townships, promoting local governance and development in Grand Cape Mount County.
