The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has donated L$1.5 million to the 2024 National County Sports Meet, specifically to reward excellence in the Kickball category. The generous contribution, was announced at a presentation ceremony yesterday February 5, 2025 with intentions to recognize outstanding performances in the competition and ensure that top players and teams are duly honored for their efforts.
The donation is structured to offer cash prizes across multiple categories, providing motivation for both players and coaches in the sport. The prize distribution was broken down to L$700,000 for the Champion, L$500,000 for the Runner-up and L$220,000 for Third Place.
For individual awards, an allotment of L$40,000 was made for the Most Valuable Player, L$20,000 for the Best Young Player and L$20,000 for the Best Coach.
During the presentation ceremony, Director General of the NLA, Reginald K. Nagbe, emphasized the organization’s continued commitment to sports development and youth empowerment across Liberia. He expressed pride in supporting the National County Sports Meet, a key event in the nation’s sports calendar that unites communities and offers young athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents.
“The National County Sports Meet is an important event that unites the country and provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents. As part of our corporate social responsibility, the NLA is proud to support the Kickball category by ensuring that the winners and outstanding players receive well-deserved prizes,” Nagbe stated.
He went on to highlight that the donation aligns with the NLA’s goal to promote sports at all levels, particularly in disciplines such as Kickball, which has seen a surge in popularity across Liberia in recent years.
Nagbe also noted that the donation was made in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth & Sports, further solidifying the shared commitment to the development of sports in Liberia. The NLA’s involvement is seen as a significant step toward encouraging youth participation in sports while ensuring that athletes are motivated by tangible rewards for their achievements.
The Kickball category, which has gained widespread attention and enthusiasm, stands to benefit greatly from this support. With the added incentive of monetary prizes, athletes are expected to compete at even higher levels, fueling the growth of the sport across Liberia’s counties.
