Cape Mount And Bong, Hosts In Tears At County Meet Kickoff

The most anticipated national county Sports Meet kicked off with a tearful start for two of the zoner hosts while two celebrated their style after getting hard fought wins against their opening opponents on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The start of the delayed traditional sporting festival did not favor Grand Cape Mount and Bong counties as they both fell to the dust on home soil in the first round of the competition with heavy anticipation from hundreds of supporters and fans that had turned up to witness separate clashes with expectations to collect opening victories for their respective counties.
Most notably, the sadness in the category of host counties begun at the Momo Tarweh Sports pitch in Robertsport where the lake boys and girls hosted Group ‘D’ and lost both kickball and football matches against Nimba County.
Before a well-attended crowd including the Chief Patron of Sports, President Joseph Boakai at the most recognized football facility in that western county, the day broke lose at midday when the girls who represented Cape Mount got whipped by their Nimbaian counterparts three homes to one in the full kickball match.
Still hoping that their guests and supporters could leave the venue with a result in the favor, the boys arrived from the Lake Piso in high gear of pushing revenge for their kickball team, but fell short to get the job done against Nimba that proved to be a tougher side for them.
Cape Mount could only smile in the first half when they took the lead before the halftime break. The case turned out to be totally different with Nimba regrouping and coming back in the second half with new strategies that turn the tide for them. It ended 2-1 in favor for the most successful county meet team.
At the David Koiyon Sports Pitch in Gbarnga Bong County, the case was no better for the Boys and Girls of the Kpatawee Waterfall who also ended in tears before their own families. Match stats and reports suggest that both teams battled hard from the very beginning to take control, but it was Grand Bassa who emerged victorious with a well-executed goal that secured all three points.
The match showcased strong defensive plays and intense midfield battles from the two sides of the Orange colored dominated stadium. Throughout the first half, a single goal was not scored, but the deadlock got broken by the port boys in the nearing end of the match. A one-nil scoreline was powered in the case of getting a three point lead for Bassa and setting a harder task for their host.
