The Deputy Minister at Ministry of Information, Daniel O. Sando, has disclosed that the much-anticipated National County Sports Meet, a cornerstone of Liberian unity since its establishment in 1956, will officially commence on January 12, 2025.
Deputy Minister Sando spoke at Ministry of Information regular press briefing emphasizing that the National County Sports Meet which was postponed from December is set to open in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County.
According to him, this year’s tournament will feature two sporting categories: football and kickball.
The group stage matches will be held from January 12-18 in four counties: Group A: Bong (Gbarnga), Group B: Grand Gedeh (Zwedru) ,Group C: Sinoe ( Greenville) and Group D: Grand Cape Mount ( Robertsport)
He further explained that counties qualifying from the group stages will advance to the quarterfinals in Monrovia at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on January 25-26.
Minister Sando added that the semifinals are scheduled for January 29, with the grand final set for February 2, 2025.
He expressed optimism that the National County Sports Meet, a symbol of reconciliation and unity, will continue to serve a unifying force for Liberians across the nation.
