In a ceremony filled with warmth and festive cheer, the Minister of National Defense, Brigadier General(rtd.) Geraldine J. George, officially lit the Christmas tree at the BTC Barracks in Central Town on Monday, December 16, 2024.
The event, organized by the Ministry of National Defense, highlighted the importance of unity, peace, and national reconciliation during the Christmas season.
In her remarks, Minister George described Christmas as a time for sharing, laughter, and reflection.
She emphasized the value of togetherness and urged Liberians to let the brightness of the Christmas tree serve as a symbol of hope and unity for the nation.
“As we light this Christmas tree, let its brightness remind us of the lasting hope and unity we share. May this season renew our purpose and the qualities that define us as a team,” she stated.
The Minister highlighted the sacrifices and commitments of Liberians in building a brighter future, underscoring the spirit of determination and service that drives the nation’s growth and development.
“May the lights of Christmas brighten our hearts, homes, and our nation,” she added. “Let it rekindle our oneness, resilience, and commitment to shifting a brighter future for Liberia. May the light of this Christmas tree shine not only at the Ministry of National Defense but across Liberia and the world.”
Brig. Gen. George also called for the festive season to inspire acts of kindness and generosity.
She announced plans to support institutions such as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the 14 Military Hospital, and orphanages in Paynesville with funds and gifts on December 17, 2024.
Additionally, she encouraged staffers of the Ministry to collect their holiday gifts as part of the celebrations.
“During this season, let us bring smiles to the faces of others,” she said. “As we prepare for the year ahead, we look forward to completing and dedicating our new office in 2025.”
Earlier, Mrs. Edwina T.N. Carr, Director of Human Resources, welcomed attendees and shared an overview of the program.
She described the lighting of the tree as an occasion to reawaken Liberia’s love and appreciation for the birth of Christ.
“This ceremony represents togetherness, hope, and a renewed sense of gratitude for how far God’s divine providence has brought us as an institution and as individuals,” Mrs. Carr noted.
The event concluded with festive music, cheer, and a strong commitment to fostering unity and hope during the Christmas season and beyond. As Liberia celebrates the holidays, the Ministry of National Defense hopes its efforts will inspire the nation to embrace the values of peace, joy, and compassion, laying the foundation for a brighter and more united future.
