The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) is set to convene its 52nd General Assembly (GA) on December 18–19, 2024, in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The assembly marks a significant milestone as it elects a new national governance leadership team to steer the organization for the next four years.
The assembly, the highest decision-making body of the Liberian Red Cross, will bring together at least 50 delegates, including county governance leaders, national youth representatives, and the National Executive Board.
Under the theme “Enhancing Governance and Leadership for Growth and Sustainable Development,” the event will focus on electing key officials, reviewing reports, and setting priorities for the organization’s humanitarian mission.
Key positions to be filled during the election include the National President, three Regional Vice Presidents, a National Treasurer, and heads of various constitutional commissions.
This leadership transition offers an opportunity for innovative approaches to governance and humanitarian service delivery.
Mr. Jerome N. J. Clarke II, who has served two consecutive terms as chair of the National Governance Board, will not seek re-election, thereby opening the floor for new leadership.
The upcoming General Assembly follows the successful completion of local elections across the LNRCS’s 91 branches and 15 chapters.
These elections underscored the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency, with 43% of leadership positions filled by women.
In total, 578 leaders—comprising 382 men and 196 women—were elected at the branch level, while 92 individuals assumed leadership roles at the county level.
Positions such as Branch Coordinators, Chapter Chairpersons, Treasurers, and Youth Representatives were filled through credible secret ballot processes.
The diversity of the elected leaders, including individuals from various religious backgrounds and those with physical challenges, reflects the Red Cross’s dedication to fostering representation and grassroots capacity.
The two-day assembly will also review and approve the LNRCS’s annual plan and budget for the upcoming year.
Reports from the outgoing president, regional vice presidents, national treasurer, and secretary-general, will be presented and discussed to ensure accountability and alignment with the organization’s goals.
Key stakeholders, including Red Cross management, Election Committee members, partners from the Red Cross movement, and government officials, are expected to attend.
As the LNRCS prepares for this significant event, it is calling on stakeholders, partners, and the public to remain engaged and supportive.
The organization reiterated its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and sustainable development in delivering impactful humanitarian services across Liberia. The outcomes of the 52nd General Assembly will set the trajectory for the Liberian Red Cross’s operations, ensuring it remains a pillar of hope and resilience in addressing humanitarian challenges.
