NFAA Rolls Out Food Distribution Across Vulnerable Population

The National Food Assistance Agency has rolled out food distribution to the vulnerable masses of the country’s population as a way of celebrating the festive season with those in need.
The agency started its festive season celebration over the weekend with a distribution of food items including rice, oil, plantain, and others to rehabilitation centers in different parts of Montserrado.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, a delegation headed by the Director General of NFAA Borkai Sirleaf kicked off the disbursement with a stop made at the Center for Rehabilitation and Reintegration in the Rehab Community.
At the facility, Director Sirleaf and his team explained that the National Food Assistance Agency is quite aware of the economic situation of the country which gives them a responsibility to seek assistance and respond to the needs of the vulnerable community and beyond.
According to him, the NFAA is an arm of the government responsible for humanitarian services that respond to citizens in need, with food and other products for direct eating and drinking.
Going to the festive season, he intimated that everyone has felt the better side of life with food and strengthened health conditions.
Describing the items donated, Director Sirleaf disclosed that his entity and partners are working not only to provide food assistance to the citizens but also to empower locals involved in farming to produce more food in the country.
“Almost everything we brought here is Liberian-grown food. We have an aim to firstly help the vulnerable people and also empower local farmers. We are like a twin mother between the two groups. This is our way of thinking about Liberia, loving Liberia, and building Liberia,” he asserted; committing to extend the program to other parts of the country.
Receiving the items with smiles, the girls at the center reigned praises on the NFAA for thinking about them and supporting their rehabilitation process with the food supply.
Some remarks pleaded with the agency to extend the food distribution to other vulnerable communities like the graveyards, the ghettos, and other places that are used daily as habitats for those involved in the use of controlled substances.
For her part, the Executive Director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Reintegration Miliett King Kangar thanked the partners that supported the NFAA with the food assistance program that were able to stretch out hands to the rehabilitation center for the sake of the clients.
According to her, the centers have managed to cater to the needs of their clients since their establishment, with little support from other partners until recently, when institutions started reaching out to them for support.
She thanked the agency and launched an SOS call to other entities and individuals capable of supporting their ideas of rehabilitation to join efforts to save the lives of the young people who continue to lose consciousness behind drug and substance abuse.
