For Prioritizing Political Power Over Citizens’ Welfare: RNC Gets Picky With Lawmakers

The Reformers National Congress (RNC) is accusing lawmakers of neglecting the pressing needs of the Liberian people in favor of political wrangling.
The Congress whose concern is directed at the ongoing political crisis at the Legislature which is on the current impasse centered on some members forming themselves into a majority to remove Fonati Kofa as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The RNC led by its political leader Alexander Kollie, in a statement questioned the priorities of the Legislature, asserting that this removal of the speaker appears to outweigh the interests, welfare, and suffering of the Liberian populace.
“It is a shame that this government appears to have no plan to rescue Liberia,” the statement declared. “Why are you so focused on removing the speaker. Is this why we put you in office. What happened to the egalitarian principle?” the RNC asserted.
The RNC emphasized the urgent need for lawmakers to prioritize governance, development, and service to their constituents.
The party called for constructive dialogue to address the underlying issues fueling the political discord and urged lawmakers to refocus on their legislative responsibilities.
“We remind all members of the Legislature that the wellbeing of Liberia and its citizens should remain at the forefront of their decisions. The Liberian people deserve a Legislature that is united in purpose and committed to advancing the nation’s development,” the statement continued.
The RNC warned that the current infighting risks undermining public confidence in the legislative branch, potentially leading to increased dissatisfaction and distrust among the citizenry.
As ordinary Liberians grapple with economic challenges, poverty, and a fragile governance structure, the RNC urged elected officials to rise above personal and political interests.
The party highlighted the legislature’s role as a pillar of democracy, one that must exhibit integrity and commitment to addressing the nation’s pressing issues.
“The Liberian people will not see your role as legitimate if you continue to prioritize political power over their well-being,” the statement added.
The Reformers National Congress concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at fostering unity, peace, and development in Liberia.
It called on lawmakers to fulfill their constitutional mandate effectively and demonstrate the leadership required to steer the nation toward prosperity.
“Liberia is at a critical juncture, and the legislature must demonstrate its ability to lead. The people of Liberia deserve better, and the time to act is now,” Rev. Kollie asserted.
As the political crisis unfolds, all eyes remain on the national legislature and its ability or failure to prioritize the interests of the Liberian people over internal conflicts and political maneuvering.
