The Williams V.S. Tubman High School Alumni Association yesterday donated several items to promote extracurricular activities and enhance sports programs on the school’s campus.
This initiative is part of the alumni’s ongoing effort to give back to the institution that once played a pivotal role in shaping their academic and professional journeys.
The donation made on Wednesday, November 27, at the school’s premises in Monrovia, included a drum set, six sets of jerseys, two footballs, two volleyballs, two basketballs, and trumpets of various sizes.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), James Momo, underscored the critical role that former students can play in improving the system’s quality of education and infrastructure.
According to him, they believe in the power of education and the need to invest in the next generation of leaders. “This donation is a small but significant way of contributing to the betterment of Tubman High School,” he said.
He noted that with increasing demands for resources, alumni’s contributions could serve as a significant source of support for current students, adding, “This is not just about helping students; it is about ensuring the future of our community and the nation.”
He urged former students to step up and join efforts to address challenges facing the school. He further highlighted the long-term benefits of alumni’s involvement, including mentorship opportunities, scholarships for students and partnerships for development initiatives.
“Alumni are uniquely positioned to give back to the system that helped shape their lives,” Momo stated, emphasizing, “Their insights, resources, and networks can directly impact the future of education in Liberia.”
He however, expressed optimism about the potential impact of alumni’s engagement; calling on graduates from various generations to reconnect with the MCSS and take pride in playing an active role in shaping its legacy.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the items on behalf of the school, the principal of the William V. S. Tubman High School, Abraham Gardour, expressed gratitude to the alumni for their generous contribution. In the words of the principal “It is not just about the materials but the hope and encouragement the alumni bring to our students and staff also matter.”
Additionally, the students and staff who attended the ceremony lauded the alumni for their initiative and called on other graduates of the institution to follow suit.
“We’ve been waiting for something like this, now we can practice properly and even dream of winning regional tournaments again,” they concluded.
The Tubman High School Alumni Association has pledged to maintain a strong partnership with the school and initiate more developmental projects in the future.
