The Liberia National Police has disclosed the arrest and detention of six protestors in Nimba County who were charged with rioting, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct and are expected to be sent to court today, Monday.
Speaking in Sanniquellie, LNP’s Regional Commander for Nimba, Bong, and Lofa Counties, Douwue Goldoe said the group of CRSG aggrieved workers allegedly attacked the administrative building in Sanniquellie while paying some of the aggrieved workers.
According to the Police Commander, this is the third time CRSG aggrieved workers attacked that government facility in demand of salary payment in the county.
“During payment of 202 aggrieved workers in Karnplay a week ago, CRSG’s entire staff, Labor workers, including me were held hostage for over three hours in the house and were later rescued by the PSU from Gbarnga hub,” Commander Goldoe lamented.
“ERU Police arrested six of the protestors including their ring leader and took them to Sanniquellie for investigations,” he stated.
Since the beginning of October 2024, tension has been bleeding between CRSG workers and management over the alleged refusal of the company to settle aggrieved workers’ salaries with other benefits as mandated by the Ministry of Labor in the country.
bout 1,600 aggrieved workers of the company are demanding salary with other benefits.
The company, after the intervention of the Ministry of Labor in the country, agreed to pay 202 of the aggrieved workers which led to rioting by some members of the group opposing everybody being paid on the same day.
