Commerce Responds To Damaged Rice Concerns

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) says it has launched a full investigation through its Inspectorate Division over recent reports of the presence of damaged rice which involves some importers.
The Ministry said it recognizes the urgency of this matter and assured that the Inspectorate Division will examine those claims, particularly as they relate to certain importers and suppliers.
According to the Ministry, its inspection teams are conducting rigorous checks to identify and remove any compromised products adding, “We assure the public that all findings will be promptly and transparently shared.”
“Anyone found to be responsible for distributing expired or contaminated goods will face the appropriate punitive measures in keeping law,” the Ministry announced.
The MoCI has committed to enforcing the highest standards of consumer protection and safety. Protecting the health and welfare of the Liberian people is our foremost priority pointing out, “We are taking strong measures to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of our inspection and oversight regime. We are dedicated to holding importers, wholesalers, and retailers accountable, ensuring that only safe, high-quality products reach our citizens.”
The Ministry therefore calls on all Liberians to join us in this effort by reporting any expired or suspicious products found in the market to our offices or through designated hotlines adding, “Together, we can maintain a safer, healthier market for all Liberians.”
The Ministry further expressed unwavering commitment to consumers’ safety and promised to continue to work tirelessly to safeguard the quality of goods.
