Local Base Squad Commences Training For CHAN Qualifiers

The local based national team of Liberia has commenced training sessions in preparation for their African Nations championship qualifiers task that will take place in the latter part of this month.
A team of 31 Liberian players from different clubs have been called by the interim coach of the Lone Star, Thomas Kojo to participate in different training sessions at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports complex in Paynesville as a way of setting a competitive squad to face their neighboring counterparts from Sierra Leone.
The Liberian squad started training last Wednesday at their national stadium with Coach Kojo and other supporting stakeholders engaging the players with basic instruction and tactics that are essential to their personal fitness going into the national duty.
The African Nations Championship a continental national teams’ competition where players from their respective domestic leagues are grouped to faceoff in other to test the competitive growth of local football across the continent.
The competition will host its double leg fixture at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. The double encounter is a part of a home and away fixture. Due to the lack a CAF accredited stadium for international matches in Sierra Leone, the football Association has decided to use Liberia’s facility to host its home match as it is being done for nearly one year.
The first leg of the CHAN qualifiers is set for Sunday, October 27, and a return leg for November 1, 2024.
The Sierra Leone Football Association has confirmed that it has accepted that the two matches be played in Liberia which will be intensifying the challenge for Sierra Leone, as they play away from home.
According to SLFA media, the CHAN tournament, which features players competing in their domestic leagues, is a key opportunity for both nations to showcase local talents. The outcome of these games is critical to Sierra Leone’s hopes of progressing in the tournament, and fans are looking forward to a competitive and exciting contest between these West African rivals.
