ANC Condemns US$15,000 Bribery

In a press release issued October 17, 2024, the ANC, through its chairman, Lafayette E. Gould, expressed deep concerns over reports suggesting a US$15,000 exchange aimed at influencing the Speaker’s removal.
“The very notion that such a process could be tainted by corruption is sickening to the core and speaks volumes about the challenges we face in eradicating corruption from our political landscape”, the release stated.

The ANC also highlighted the broader implications of corruption, stressing, “Corruption is a cancer that eats away at the fabric of our society, undermining trust, eroding public confidence, and stifling progress.”
The party has at the same time urged the public to hold officials accountable for the funds allocated to them from taxpayers, thus calling for an impartial financial audit of the Legislature.
The ANC, is meanwhile calling on the U.S. government to assist in holding accountable those engaged in corrupt practices and the advocacy for swift sanctions, noting, “It is imperative that we, as a country, take a firm stand against such malfeasance.”
The party however encouraged lawmakers to denounce corruption and reaffirm their dedication to serving the citizenry, and said, “Together, we can forge a path forward that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.”
