Romanian gaffer Mario Marinica as head coach of the Lone Star has been made to stand in what appears to be a frame incompetence for the task as reports of his resignation flaw national media for failure to meet the dreams and anticipation of Liberia’s more than five million populace in the African Cup of nations qualifiers.
Mario who took over the Liberia’s Senior men’s national team after his unveiling on February 19 of this year recently rumpled his contract mandate of qualifying the team to the 2025 nations cup by losing three consecutive matches in the campaign.
The outcome of his last three game performances on the sideline for the national squad has proven that Liberia will not have another Nations Cup participation since the George Weah elven era played at the tournament in 2002 which is more than two decades now.
After Losing to high power football group leader Algeria 3-0 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on September 10, 2024 the Lone Star loss its grips of points earning under the watch of Coach Mario. This situational inbalance gave Equatorial Guinea a hope at the nations cup because they were able to collect two wins over their Liberian counterparts to get seven points next to Algeria that has not lost a single qualifier match at the nations cup this year.
The back-to-back loses to Equatorial Guinea has sparked up public concerns that the coach is unable to deliver the task in his mandate which includes: qualifying for the Nations Cup, the 2026 World Cup as well as building a competitive team for the country in the two years term limit of his contract.
Conceding six goals and scoring once in his last three matches, Lone Star manager fell to the pressure of the fans and countless Liberians who blasted him for failing to achieve his mandate with two matches remaining in the Nations Cup Qualifiers and other matches in the World Cup Qualifier.
Losing at dying minute on home soil last Monday, October 14, 2024 was another critical day for Mario as he explained his feelings that Liberians are full of negativity. According to him, the day result reflected a point of his contract that the Liberia Football Association calls for the termination of the contract as if there is someone better than him that could make a change in the case of the Lone Star.
He said his desired since ascending to the nation’s top job had been to have progress with the team which come with pain and other conditions but Liberians are not lovers of football to support his ideology but lovers of victories.
Less than 24 hours after Lone Star’s last defeat, tons of reports have suggested that Mario Marinica has resigned from his role to kick of a life after the time with the boy in the Red, White and Blue national colors.
Up to press time, the employers of the Romanian gaffer at the local football house have not confirm the report of his resignation.
