Fassell Looks Ahead After Successful Soccer For Peace Tournament

Cassell Anthony Kuoh, the dynamic leader of FC Fassell, continues to defy his critics following the triumphant conclusion of the second edition of the Soccer For Peace (SFP) tournament held from September 12-15 in Buchanan city Grand Bassa County. Under his stewardship, Fassell not only showcased exceptional organizational prowess but also reinforced its commitment to promoting peace and unity through football.
The tournament featured a round-robin format with hosts FC Fassell, Mighty Barrolle of Liberia, FC Kallon from Sierra Leone, and Loto Popo FC of Benin. Fassell emerged victorious, securing the championship with seven points after a 3-1 victory over Kallon, a goalless draw with Loto Popo, and a 2-1 win against Barrolle. Loto Popo finished as runners-up with five points, highlighted by a commanding 4-0 victory over Barrolle.
Striker Ndene Cisse of Loto was recognized for his outstanding performance, earning both the Most Valuable Player and the Highest Scorer awards, netting four goals during the tournament.
The event garnered significant attention, thanks to extensive coverage from both traditional and social media outlets. Medical professionals were on hand to ensure the safety of participants, exemplified by the swift response to a police officer who required immediate medical attention.
Among the notable attendees were Mrs. Charlene Kuoh, Vice President Newton Campbell, Tsingtao-Liberia CEO Wilson Nyanneh, and several esteemed figures from the football community, including former Liberia head coach Thomas Kojo and Determine Girls President Grace Weah. The tournament was sponsored by New Energy Electric Vehicle (NEEV-Liberia) and even included the rehabilitation of the road leading to the stadium, enhancing the overall experience for fans and participants alike.
With the SFP tournament now behind them, Fassell’s focus shifts to the upcoming 2024/2025 Orange National League, set to kick off in October. Kuoh expects nothing short of a championship run from his ambitious squad, now under the guidance of Belgian head coach Ivan Minnaert. The team recently completed a 23-day training camp in Cairo, Egypt, followed by a four-day jamboree in Buchanan, and Kuoh is hopeful that Minnaert has instilled a winning mentality among the players.
As FC Fassell prepares for the national league, they also set their sights on returning to the CAF Champions League, aiming to elevate their status in African football. The upcoming season promises to be an exciting chapter in Fassell’s journey, as they continue to build on the momentum generated from the SFP tournament.
