UP’s Chair Makes Startling Revelations …About 2017 Presidential Elections

Former ruling Unity Party (UP) National Chairperson, Wilmot Paye made a startling revelation over the weekend in which he claimed may have propelled the party to lose the 2017 Presidential elections in contrast to speculations that he was the cause for the party’s defeat.
The Congress for Democratic Change [CDC] as an opposition party by then lost to former Unity Party twice[2005 & 2011] but came back stronger following a collaboration and coalition which produced the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) to defeat the Unity Party in 14 out of 15 counties in the 2017 presidential run-off elections in Liberia.
Making what appeared to be a startling disclosure on the 50-50 Talk-show on Friday, Chairman Paye divulged that contrast to insinuations that he[Paye] impelled the party’s defeat, indicated that the party was engulfed with impasse affecting the party due to Research studied that was done by an Israeli independent research film’s findings.
Mr. Paye who claimed he had no knowledge as to who commissioned the independent group which graded former Vice President Joseph Boakai high to win the elections without runoff provided what appears to be hard condition that seems to be driving entrenched problem within the party.
Mr. Paye said among other things that Amb. Boakai would have won the election without run-off if he had campaigned not on Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s achievements stating that Madam Sirleaf’s leadership feats are limited to what were received following the end of the war by her government.
In the findings, the group described the Presidential election as easy elections than the past two elections conducted in Liberia to be won by Boakai.
Findings on Boakai: “Your popularity rating at the level that is far better than it was in the past two elections. So, it is easier to win but you need to work hard. It is likely that the presidential round may not for runoff-if you work harder, it is very possible,” Paye quoted the findings.
The Independent findings warned Amb. Boakai not to campaign on Ellen and Boakai’s feats incurred within the 12-year at the helm of power.
According to Mr. Paye, independent findings cautioned Boakai not to campaign on the achievements of Sirleaf’s Administration although he is part of it-because many Liberians believe that past administration had lots of opportunities that were squandered as was indicated by former Vice President Boakai.
UP’s Spokesperson also said Liberians hold the belief that aids came to Liberia under Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf because of the sympathies from investors and friendly partners due to the 14 years of civil unrest that killed hundreds of citizen but were not used properly as anticipated.
The findings’ reason for not allowing Boakai to campaign on Sirleaf’s leadership successes states; “Liberians believe that the achievements of which UP is bragging about is limited,” the report allegedly said.
In the findings, the group told former President Sirleaf to determine her legacy and establish a work plan on what she wants her legacy to be.
He added, “If you want Vice President to succeed you [Madam President]-don’t get involved with his campaign because your popularity rating has dropped,” Paye quoted Findings.
He said the independent finding was done when ECOWAS States held a Summit in Liberia. Paye further explained that during that time a special interview was conducted by an Independent Group from Israel on seven presidential candidates, including Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, George Weah, the late Charles Walker Brumskine, Alexander B. Cummings, Benoni Wilfred Urey, Prince Johnson , Dr. J. Mills Jones.
Paye said the study which was focused on political situation particularly on subject on seven presidential candidates was intended to determine who was favorable to win the 2017 elections and among other issues.
According to the tough talking Chairperson, the presentation of the findings was done in the presence of Ambassador Boakai, former President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Minister Eugene Nagbe, President George Weah, Paye and others.
