The former National Chairman of the ruling Unity Party USA-Chapter, Fredrick Samuel Gibson, has expressed dissatisfaction over threats made by former officials of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
He described the former President’s claims of a witch-hunt as unfounded and fake.
Over the weekend, Mr. Gibson stated that, if cleaning the mess, the past government created in Liberia is a witch-hunt, then UP-USA fully supports that witch-hunt and calls on President Boakai to intensify the process.
According to him, he is convinced that, the former President is aware of being hunted for a legitimate cause adding that, in his capacity as former President of Unity Party USA, he declared his full support for implementing the ARREST Agenda.
He added that, on July 31, 2024, the former president vowed that, the CDC will use every means at its disposal to stop the UP-led government from undermining the rule of law and threatening Liberia’s peace.
“Since the defeat of the former President in the just ended 2023 elections, individuals from CDC have vowed to be disruptive opponents, thereby embarking on a campaign to terrorize the country with activities aimed at creating the impression that Liberia is ungovernable, unstable, and unfit for investment,” he stressed.
He asserted that, former President Weah and CDCians have consistently threatened the peace and security of the country noting, “They have orchestrated a systematic campaign aimed at castigating and vilifying the government, instigating civil disobedience, inciting protests aimed at causing unrest, and engaging in other forms of disruptive activities to distract the government from implementing its development agenda.”
“Liberians in the diaspora are increasingly concerned about the ongoing situation in Liberia and the perceived lack of dedication from the opposition in tackling corruption. They are particularly critical of President Weah’s recent remarks, which they interpret as a call to his supporters for insurrection and a threat to national peace and stability,” he said.
Gibson explained, “The former President’s criticism of the government’s legitimate efforts to combat corruption appears to be an attempt to deflect attention from the legal consequences he and his associates are likely to face.”
“This is a crucial moment for Liberians to reduce and alleviate the rising tensions within the country. The government and opposition must engage in constructive dialogue and coordinated efforts to enhance the well-being of the Liberian people,” he lamented.
He called on Liberians to rise above the CDC’s governance, which he described as six years of misrule, misery, and catastrophic resource plundering, and instead, to support President Boakai and his administration in their efforts to rescue the nation.
He urged Liberians, the neighboring countries, and the international community to closely examine the malevolent and destructive actions of the previous government, which claims to represent the grassroots.
He emphasized the need to prevent it from causing further harm to the country’s socio-economic and political environment.
