Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono says delay leading to the recruitment of county council members is hampering county’s preparedness for development.
Superintendent Gono revealed that the delay in the exercise to send the names of the council members to work along with the superintendent for transparency and accountability in using the county social development funds is worrisome.
According to Superintendent Gono, the county’s leadership has written lawmakers as well as the county’ legislative caucus to intervene into the issue.
Superintendent Gono disclosed via mobile phone that the recruitment of the nine-member council was announced by the Internal Affairs Minister during her induction ceremony in Sanniquellie.
Since the pronouncement, some officials working with civil society organizations opposed the exercise on ground that there is no civil society in Nimba until the Supreme Court comes down with a verdict.
“What we all know is that there is no president for civil society group until supreme Court go through the election case before the court and come down with ruling,” Alphanson Gweh lamented.
During the beginning of 2023, civil society group went to the poll in Nimba to elect president and core workers but election was allegedly marked by fraud that led to some aggrieved members to seek legal means at the 8th Judiciary circuit court in Sanniquellie.
When this paper contacted Representative Darwan Gleekia, confirmed report of controversial leading to the leadership of the civil society group in the county.
“We are crafting a resolution to the county administration’s to settle the leadership crisis to elect new nine members council to works with county leadership ,” representative Gleekia boasted .
“We don’t lean to discuss this issue on media, we the law makers don’t know about the civil society election held in 2023, we will meet as a law makers to craft a resolution to settle the issue,” representative Gleekia revealed.
