Gov’t Launches World Bank’s Supported Aquaculture Training

The Liberian government, through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and with funding from the World Bank under the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project, has commenced an eight-day aquaculture training program in Margibi and Bong Counties.
The training began June 24, 2024, and aimed to enhance the technical capacity of NaFAA technicians and extension officers.
Facilitated by aquaculture experts from AquaBioTech Group, based in Malta, the training is designed to develop the aquaculture sector in Liberia by equipping key personnel and stakeholders with essential knowledge and skills.
According to a press release from NaFAA, the training focuses on improving aquaculture yields by refining common practices and disseminating knowledge of core aquaculture components.
Participants of the training include representatives from several aquaculture cooperatives, such as the Bong County Aquaculture Cooperative, Nimba County Aquaculture Cooperative, and Lofa County Aquaculture Cooperative, among others.
Training sessions will cover topics including feed conservation ratio (FCR), biosecurity, hatchery management, and upgraded pond construction techniques.
Following the eight-day training, a one-day “Aquaculture Development Day” event will be held at Bella Cassa Hotel on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
This workshop will engage stakeholders in discussions about best practices across Africa, recent developments in aquaculture in Liberia and elsewhere, and opportunities for cooperation in the sector.
The event is jointly organized by NaFAA and AquaBioTech Group.
