The Management of the Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Agricultural Agro-Processing and Industrial Workers’ Union of Liberia (AAIWUL) on behalf of the Golden Veroleum Agricultural Workers’ Union of Liberia (GOVAWUL).
The signing ceremony was done Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Monrovia and the GVL Vice president for Strategic and Stakeholders Engagement, Elvis Morris said the Government through the Ministry of Labor has been impactful to their company and noted, “When we have issues with the worker union we run to Labor first for solution.”
He added that Agriculture production is key in the country and it has helps the country to move forward, noting that it is fast in growth, and as such, those Liberians in the sector that working must be treated fairly by their employer at all times with GVL being of no exception.
The MIA Senior Programs Coordinator National Concession Conflict Resolution, Austin Railey, said they have worked so hard to get the CBA to be successful.
According to him, they traveled from the mills to unification town and other places to make people see the need to have the CBA and noted that the ceremony makes a great achievement especially for the local workers union.
He thanked the GVL for always building bridges with the MIA to get them involved with the GVL’s community engagements as well as thanked the GVL for ensuring less report from their company on concession conflict.
MOL Assistant Minister for Trade Union Affairs and Social Dialogue, Rufus Saylee, further expressed his excitement to see the management and the worker union coming together to have such an agreement and he is looking forward to seeing more of such ceremonies.
Meanwhile, Golden Veroleum Agriculture Worker Union of Liberia representative, Mr. Michael Kun thanked those who graced their signing ceremony and said that they will ensure that their industrial peace and harmony remains on all of their farms in Sinoe and Grandkru counties.
