CU’s 62nd Commencement Orator Gets Doctor Of Humane Letters

Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County has conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree on the African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia, Benedict Sorie Kanu.
The degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (Latin: Litterarum humanarum doctor; DHumLitt; DHL; or LHD) is usually conferred as an honorary degree to those who have distinguished themselves in humanitarian and development professionalism.
The Doctorate Degree of Humane Letter (L.H.D)–Honoris Causa is in recognition of the African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia accomplishments in many fields including humanity, peace-building and education.
The honor was bestowed on the African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia, Kanu during the 62nd Commencement Convocation of the University on Saturday, June 15, 2024 in Suakoko.
In a citation read by the Cuttington University Vice president for Academic Affairs, Amanze Charles Ihedioha, said the University was impressed by the milestone efforts being applied by Dr. Kanu to combat poverty and help improve the living conditions of Africans through the African Development Bank.
In the citation; Cuttington University determined the many strives and impacts the African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia, Kanu has made over the years in Liberia and on the world stage.
The University stated as reasons for awarding the African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia, noting that his “par excellence” activism and humanitarian role over the years in the country.
“Dr. Benedict Sorie Kanu, a seasoned development professional, is Agricultural Economist with more than 22 years of international professional experience, including designing, managing and evaluating agricultural programs,” Dr. Ihedioha added.
Dr. Amanze Charles Ihedioha said Dr. Kanu have served the African Development Bank (AfDB) in various capacities spanning multiple countries and regions of Africa.
Dr. Kanu expressed his gratitude in the administration of the University for the level work done over the years in preparing students noting that his immense and untiring contributions to humanity are due to the high level of compassion he has for Liberians and the African continent.
The African Development Bank Country Representative to Liberia at the same time challenged the graduates of Cuttington University to rise above any limits that impede their progress and go all out to achieve their goals, stressing that in life there are always situations that have happened before and similar solutions were also found by others that were faced with the problems.
Delivering his keynote address at the 62nd Convocation exercise of CU, Dr. Kanu opted for a radical departure from the normal ways of convocation orators speaking on a specific issue but decided to communicate to the graduates by inspiring them not to see any obstacle as a barrier, teaching them how to go about solving the problem and leaving them with an encouragement that problems have always existed right from the existence of mankind, but what has been able to prevail is the fact that there is the solution to every problem based on how one takes on the problem because according to he, others before have done it.
He made the statement when he delivered his keynote address at Cuttington University 62nd commencement convocation, when the University’s graduated over 755 students from its class of 2024.
