Fmr. President Sirleaf’s 2nd Child Dies At Age 68

Liberians awoke to the shocking death news of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf son, Charles Sirleaf, the former Deputy Governor for Operations at the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL),who died at age 68, in Accra, Ghana on June 3, 2014.

This bring to two the deaths of the former leader’s children. Madam Sirleaf had four children; all boys but just in December, 2021, she lost James, bearing the same name as her late husband but was commonly referred to as JESS and now it is Charles; both were professional bankers.

The late Charles, according to family sources, died in his sleep, which is apparently similar to JESS’ death; leaving his wife, mother and other sibling in total disbelief and sorrow.

However, details surrounding his death have not been fully disclosed, with the family requesting privacy and time during this difficult moment but according to information, the one-time CBL former acting boss has been battling illness for a protracted period. 

Meanwhile, President Joseph N. Boakai has extended his condolences to former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on the loss of her Son, Charles Sirleaf.

In a telephone conversation with the former President, the Liberian leader expressed profound regrets and prayed that God consoles Madam Sirleaf and her family during such a difficult time. 

The President, according to an Executive Mansion release, promised to pay her a visit upon his return to the country, as he is currently away on national duty, urging Liberians and friends to offer prayers for consolation and peace of mind for the former President and her family.
