Cameroon Embassy in Liberia honored its country’s 52nd Independence Day on Tuesday May 21, 2024.
The program in Monrovia started with a red carpet address by the Cameroon Ambassador to Liberia, Beng’Yela Augustine Gang who said since the independence of Cameroon in 1960, its deep enduring friendship with Liberia has been based on mutual willingness to collaborate in a world of unhealthy rivalries and to train each other’s youth.
He also thanked Liberians for the long standing diplomatic relationship between the two countries adding, “Good evening and thank you all for your warm company as the Cameroon Embassy and members of our Cameroon communities in Liberia, Sierra Leona and Guinea join our 30 million compatriots across over 260 ethnic groups to celebrate May 20, the National Day of Cameroon.”
The theme for this year’s independence, ‘The Army and Nation, Together For A United, Peaceful And Prosperous Cameroon,’ Ambassador Gang concluded by informing the audience to keep in close contact with the embassy to get fair practical advice about their 2025 general elections that is around the corner.
Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Deweh E. Gray informed the gathering about the long standing diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
“We are indeed pleased to note the harmonious relations existing between our two countries; Liberia played a vital role in the Cameroonian affairs at the League of Nations and its relentless effort for Cameroon Independence in 1960 leading to the reunification in 1961.”
Minister Gray also included that Liberia was the first country to establish a diplomatic mission at the Ambassadorial level in 1960 with the appointment of Ambassador Francia Marshall as Liberia Ambassador to Cameroon.
