UMOVEMENT Concludes One-Day Teachers Training

The Youth Movement for Collective Action (UMOVEMENT), on Sunday, December 1, 2019 concluded the training of over 90 teachers, administrators and monitors of government-owned schools from the three educational districts in Kakata, Margibi County.
The training is part of the Liberia Education Advancement Program (LEAP), implemented by the organization to buttress government effort, LEAP and Government’s private partnership (PPP) for education that aims to dramatically improve learning outcomes for children with UMOVEMENT as Liberia’s only National Non-Government Organization (NGO) among six international NGOs since 2016, but the organization is poised to train over 130 teachers, administrators and monitors of government-owned schools in Margibi and Bong Counties by the end of December 2019 in line with LEAP activities.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the training, Margibi County acting Education Officer Stephen H. Toe Jr. described the rolled out of LEAP in the county by UMOVEMENT as the beginning of progress at government owned schools in the region, urging the beneficiaries of the training to be attentive as they acquire new requisite skills to improve learning outcome in Liberia. “This training comes with rich content and I must applaud Youth Movement for Collective Action for coming to the aid of our teachers for our government and the Ministry of Education with LEAP activities. This is what all of us have been yarning for because we believe that when the action is collective, we will achieve the needed results in education” he said.
Also speaking, UMOVEMENT Education Officer Caroline L. Vah-Lord lauded the County authorities, teachers, school administrators and the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education for supporting quality, inclusive, equitable and accessible education in the country especially at the pre-primary and primary levels. “In all of the counties we have worked, the collectiveness in Margibi County is exceptional particularly from the large turnout by representatives of the Ministry of Education including the District Education Officers and the County Education Officer among others. Your turn out here today show that you are indeed ready to push Liberia forward through education by embracing LEAP activities in your schools through our organization,” she said.
The training covers various topics including the National Policy on Girls Education, Teacher Code of Conduct and Ethics, Building Community, and Early Childhood Development. Other topics being covered are Play-Based Learning, Reporting Writing, Engaging Children and the Principles of Positive Learning.
Founded in 2011, UMOVEMENT is a registered national non-governmental, non-political and non-for-profit organization, which strongly belief that a good education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and can create a better future for children and their families. The core programs of organization are: Education, Health, Child Protection, Play-Based Learning and Livelihoods.
