Bomi County Kickball Team yesterday booked its first quarterfinals slot in Group ‘B’ at the 2024 National County Sports Meet.
In a tight race five innings kickball fixture played under the humid weather at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia, the blue lake girls whipped their host Montserrado 4-3.
It started impressive for the home side when two of the players reached the home based during the first inning and none of the visiting girls were able to break their lead there.
In the third inning for both side, Bomi found a one home to ease the tension and both teams continued defending.
It became a tearsful ceremony when the visitors came from down to surpass the score of their host.
Three players of Bomi hit the home base in at their last chances and shifted the score line 4-2 in their favor as the first to win two games in the group.
Bomi had a 5-2 victory over Grand Cape Mount County at the opening of the delayed county meet and is expected to be at the quarterfinals that will take place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.
The girls from the Blue Lake will meet Grand Cape Mount, the girls from the Belle Forest on Saturday April 20, to end the preliminary stage.
From all indications, the tears shared by players and officials of Montserrado County was as a result of losing the possibility of coming back to the kickball category.
The burden of qualification now mandates the host to get a compulsory win against Cape Mount in the last group fixture with a better score.
Montserrado will also be hoping that Bomi gets to defeat Gbarpolu to save their chances on a final group day fixture.
Meanwhile, Grand Cape Mount County got to win way against Gbarpolu at the matchday two 3-1 to close the gap they got following the first day defeat.
