The Presidential candidate on the ticket of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) has announced that the party has reached its closure but he will continue to be engaged and involved in espousing these hopes, holding the Unity Party led government to account.

The CPP was comprised of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and a portion of the Liberty party lead by Musa Bility up to its demise yesterday, April 15, 2024. Initially the parties that collaborated for its formation were the Unity Party, the Liberty Party, the All Liberian Party and the ANC.

The defeated political leader of the ANC, Alexander B. Cummings, did not say much on reasons for such decision or about his political sojourn but said as the CPP draws its curtains, he, apparently as a Liberian, will ensure that the ruling party is accountable and that there are checks and balances in this government.

With just six months since the elections and three months since Boakai took over, Cummings said he hopes that the Liberian people will stop being divided and unite as leaders and citizens, noting, “We can do more to be law-abiding and as well respect and care for each other.”

Addressing a major press conference, Monday, April 15, 2024 at the ANC headquarters in Congo Town, Cummings continued that Liberia is too rich for Liberian to be poor and that he hopes that government will stop the corruption, division and unite our nation

Cummings stated that, corruption does not have to continue to be pathways to success and prosperity, adding that government does not have to and should not continue to be the biggest employer so that individual and group principals are continuously compromised and determined by their quest for government jobs.

“We can act more meaningfully to stop the explosive drug epidemic ongoing in our country that is killing our children and undermine the future of Liberia. Of course, we can do more to improve our schools, and hospitals, so that our children can do more to compete for job at home and globally,” he reckoned.

Cummings repeated that, “Liberians don’t have to continue to die from preventable and treatable illness, saying that we can provide basic services to our people so that whenever one chooses to live in Liberia, they can experience living in the 21st century like everyone else.”

Meanwhile, he said the government can negotiate better deals for the country so that the natural resources actually benefit the people rather than only a few of the leaders as Liberia is 177 years yet, its people are still far from the nation but, expressed hope that Liberians will put country over party and national interest over self-interest.

“We are hopeful that they will commit to changing not only the financial conditions of government officials and their families, but also the economics and social conditions of the Liberian people,” he reminded the Boakai-led government.
