The Pharmacist Boys of New Kru township in the nation’s first division league, Global Pharma, defeated one of Liberia’s oldest football clubs, Mighty Barrolle, to qualify for the Liberia football Association Orange Cup semifinal.
Global Pharma used Barrolle’s own home ground, the Doris Williams Sports Pitch in Buchanan City of Grand Bassa County, to collect a comfortable 4-2 victory that took them to the next stage of the knockout competition of the local football house.
A brace was secured by Amadiah Kawah as the Pharmacy Boys overturned the Kanyan Peper Boys’ early lead.
Mighty Barrolle started the game with a forceful approach, using Nuch Zohn to get the opener for the home side in the first five minutes of play, but Amadiah Kawah relieved his side of the early pressure before the first half break when he got the equalizer.
During the second half, Kawah completed his brace as James Richardson and Sylvester Doe came with a goal apiece to dampen the hopes of the Barrolle faithful.
With the 4-1 scoreline, Marvin Blapoh was booked in the box for a foul committed against a player of the home side and a straight red card awarded to him, to reduce the squad to 10 men, with a penalty that was taken by Nuch Zohn to set the score at 4-2.
The first leg was played on March 7, 2024 at the D. Tweh Sports pitch in New Kru Town, at the time the Pharmacists just got the newly refurbished facility accredited to them as a home ground by the Liberia Football Association.
The match was played in a blast with a wholesome entertaining flow that Nuch Zohn and Amadiah Kawah were the ones that initiated the club’s rivalry, as they both scored a goal each to share the spoils.
Global Pharma’s victory kept alive their only hope of silverware this season and ended the Rollers’ dream of a trophy this season. The match had everything needed for a classic cup tie, including end-to-end action and two red cards, one to each team. The result means Global Pharma FC progress to the semifinal on a 5-3 aggregate.
