Burglary Or Conspiracy?

Police in Nimba County says it has launched an investigation into the alleged burglary at the YMCA Senior High School in Ganta, Nimba County.

The principal of the school, Nyandiah Sokkpah, complained to the LNP that on February 4, 2024, some unknown persons broke into the premises of the school and made away with over L$138,000, which were moneies collected as the students’ West African Senior School Certificate Exam (WASSCE) and study class fees, though the principal remains tight-lipped as to how much was charged for the WASSCE fees and the study class fees.

During a routine visit on the campus, many of the teachers expressed great disappointment, on grounds that no mark is shown on the facility to convince the public about the burglary.

Speaking to this paper on the school campus, many of the students blamed YMCA administrations for the burglary, citing that the school has a 76-year-old security guard

Speaking at the police station, the security guard, James Tinnee, 76, denied allegations linking him to the burglary.

“The principal never informed me about such huge money in his office until the alleged burglary,” the security lamented.

When this paper contacted CSD Preston Gonpue, he said the principal’s explanation created suspicions on the case, as leaving such huge amount in the office without informing the security is somehow suspicious, adding, “No document to show how many students paid WASSCE and study class fees to total L$138,000.”

“During the preliminary investigation, the principal claimed that he collected L$171,500 from students and deposited the money at the bank, but no deposit slip, and how much was collected from the students prior to the incident was not answered,” Gonpue disclosed.
