After a week-long protest in demands of salary and other benefits at the Methodist Hospital in Ganta, health workers have resumed their duties with immediate effect.
The workers union president, Gabriel Tounzie, disclosed that after series of appeals from religious and community leaders, aggrieved health workers have resumed their respective duties at the hospital in Nimba County.
“We resumed work under some conditions; we gave the administration up to March 31, 2024, to pay all workers before any discussion,” Tounzie disclosed.
Tounzie, who said that there are several issues confronting the workers at the hospital, announced the opening of OB ward, ER, adult ward, private ward, maternity ward, and pediatric ward with immediate effect.
On February 16, 2024, aggrieved health workers assigned at various departments at the hospital deserted their duties and left their patients vulnerable in demands of salary payment, job benefits, among other things.
Since the beginning of 2023, reports of salary delays, coupled with less than pleasant working conditions for the health workers working with the Methodist Hospital in Nimba, have run rampant.
During the beginning of 2023, health workers working with Methodist Hospital’s Rehab Leprosy and TB Center in Ganta, staged a demonstration in demands of benefits, good working conditions, among other things.
When this paper contacted the administrator, Allen Zomonway, he confirmed that all workers are back to work, but remained vague over the salary payment issue.
“We have spoken with them and everybody is working, but we are currently discussing on how we can pay them their salaries and other benefits,” Zomonway disclosed.
