The former Nimba County District 9 Representative, Johnson Gwaikolo has died, according to family members in Monrovia.
According to family members, the staunch United Methodist died at the Catholic Hospital in Congo town, where he was admitted to seek medical attention.
Former Representative Gwaikolo who was Representative from 2017 to 2023 in District 9, Nimba County, and also a former president of the United Methodist University, died on Monday, February 19, 2024, but reports of the cause of death puts it to heart failure.
It can be recalled that the deceased lost his attempt to retain his post for a second term to current Representative, Taa Wongbe, in the recent General and Presidential Elections on October 10, 2023.
He worked with the United Methodist University (UMU), rising from Vice president for Business and Finance to being the fourth president of the university, where he became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the faith-based institution.
Gwaikolo worked closely with the Board of Directors to ensure that the strategic direction and policies of the university were aligned with its mission.
He provided leadership and surveillance for all aspects of the university, including academics, finance, planning, student affairs, enrollment, advancement, athletics, and other key areas.
In the public sector, Gwaikolo served in several government positions, ranging from Executive Director for National Investment Commission to Deputy Minister for Administration at several ministries.
Gwaikolo was seen at the 191st conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC) held in Grand Bassa County.
