Nimba Lawmakers Divided Over Outcome of Peace Meeting -Rep. Younquoi Still Threatens Court Action Against Sen. Johnson .

Lawmakers from Nimba County are reported to be divided over the outcome of a peace talks brokered recently by the Traditional Council of the County to resolve the acrimonious relationship existing between the Lawmakers. The Traditional Council of Chiefs in Nimba decided to hold the Peace Meeting between the lawmakers based on a complaint filed to the Council by Representatives Larry Younquoi and Sam Kogar relative to allegation made by Senator Prince Johnson that the two lawmakers had recruited former Generals of the erstwhile National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) to form part of the June 7 protest to create chaos in the country.
Although the two lawmakers denied the allegation, they also threatened several actions against Senator Johnson, including legal action and filing a formal complaint to the US State Department to support the creation of a War Crime Court in Liberia to apparently persecute war lords and others, including Senator Johnson, for their alleged role in the Liberian civil crisis.
Besides the threats to take legal steps and file a formal complaint to the State Department, the two lawmakers also filed a formal complaint to the Traditional Council of Chiefs of Nimba and gave them 21 days to investigate their complaint.
It is in an apparent response to the complaint that the Traditional Council of Chiefs reportedly held the Peace Meeting a local church in Cassava Estate in Gompa City over the weekend to resolve the differences between the lawmakers.
Our correspondent in Nimba reported the Meeting was held behind closed door for several hours with six of the Law Makers, including Representative Sam Kogar of Electoral District Five, Representative Larry Younquoi of Electoral District Eight and Senator Thomas Grupee, to find common ground and create a cordial working relationship between the 11 Nimba Law Makers from the County.
According to our reporter, the meeting ground was tightened by security, including the Liberia National Police, who were posted at every corner of the building to prevent intruders and journalists from entering the hall, while supporters of Senator Prince Johnson, , Representatives Larry Younquoi, and Sam Kogar, waited outside to hear the outcome of the meeting.
Speaking the press after the meeting, Chief Peter Barloun, Chairman of Nimba County Traditional Council, said the meeting was successful with both parties agreeing to work together to move the County ahead, adding that the chiefs, elders, women groups, and youth will craft a resolution for the 11 law makers to sign so that nobody uses the media for castigation purposes.
“Anybody who violates this mandate will be fined by the Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders or be removed from the House of Representatives,” Chief Peter Barloun stressed. He then frowned at the 11 Law Makers for disgracing the County by the constant use of hate messages and undermining development in the County.
“We the elders are not happy with every one of you because you people are disgracing this great County, Nimba, that has all the resources with nothing going on to rebuild the County since the coming into power of this Government, Chief Barloun intimated.
He then called on Senator Johnson to play a major role in solving the situation in the county, adding “Senator Johnson, we are putting your little brothers, the law makers, and the County into your hands for you people to work together, both of you should stand and shake hands and let bye gone be bye gone .”
In response, Senator Johnson said “we will now put away our differences aside to move the county ahead and I beg all citizens in the county for forgiveness.”
Representative Kogar, commenting on the meeting, said he accepted the result of the meeting that he will no more discuss the county on Radio and called on Representative Larry Younquoi to accept the request of the Traditional Council for peace to return in the County.
However, Representative Larry Younquoi, after the meeting, called a press conference and accused the Traditional Council of Chiefs of being in the pockets of Senator Johnson, adding that he will not accept the result of the meeting.
“My problems I came with was not solved and I never came here to praise Senator Johnson , and will see to it that my case is addressed according to law, “ Representative Younquoi asserted. Meanwhile, the Peace Talk was arranged by the Traditional Council, the Christian Community, Concerned Women Groups and the Muslim Community. It brought together chiefs, elders, women groups, and motorcyclists from six districts in the County . the County was represented by Superintendent Dorr cooper, while the Christian community represented by Rev. Larkpor Z. Dahn.Others in attendance included the Concerned Women groups headed by former Superintendent Christiana Dakardou, and Sheley Brown, former Commissioner of Bain- Garr, while the Muslim community was headed by Varmalah Jabateh.
