As a part of the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Girls Alliance for Future Leadership has honored and certificated three distinguished ladies as role models for girls in the country.
On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face globally.
Due to the just ended presidential and legislative elections in Liberia, the Girls Alliance for Future Leadership was unable to observe this year’s International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, but decided to do so on November 28, 2023, by honoring women who have made a great impact in the country.
The three women honored by the teenage girls’ group are Madam Nyemadi Pearson, Deputy Governor for Operations at the Central Bank of Liberia; Madam Lisa White, Communication Manager, Lone Star MTN; and Madam Sarah Myers Browne, Site Manager Prevail, Redemption site, at the Redemption Hospital in the Borough of New Kru Town on the Bushrod Island.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Advocacy Officer of the Alliance, Miss Kadiatu Bah, said these distinguish women were honored and certificated for their efforts aimed at inspiring young girls to seek higher heights in the socio-economic arena.
In response, the honorees, Nyemadi Pearson, who was represented by Madam Gertrude Worjloh, an employee of Central Bank, Lisa White, and Sarah Browne, thanked the Girls Alliance for Future Leadership for the awards bestowed on them.
The Girls’ Excellent Leadership Awards are annually given to women who have and are impacting the lives of others greatly, most especially girls.
Sister Mary Lauren Browne was the first recipient of the award, including Liberia’s first lady, Madam Clar Marie Weah; outgoing Vice president, Madam Jewel Howard Taylor, Madam Mary Broh, and other great women in Liberia.
