The outgoing ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) says it has zero intention to participate in a less than one percent mandate government who managed their way to power through fraud.
The CDC, headed by President George Weah, was defeated by Joseph Boakai of the UP in a tightly contested run-off election, after both candidates failed to obtain an outright majority of the total votes cast during the October 10 Polls.
Addressing a news conference yesterday in Congo Town, the CDC Secretary General, Jefferson Koijee, revealed that the party has accused the opposition Unity Party (UP) of stealing the votes of the Liberian People in the just ended November 14, 2023 Presidential Run-off election in the country.
He said, “We are not here to bring war, unlike Joseph Boakai who threatened to end the country if he does not win the elections, because there is evidence that this election was stolen by the UP and that the will of the people was denied.”
According to him, Koijee, the UP has now been recorded on the bad side of the country’s history, indicating that his CDC remains the true definition of peace and democracy.
Meanwhile, Koijee has also debunked and denied his involvement in the sad incident which occurred at the headquarters of the UP, describing the allegations levied against his character as false.
He noted that those involved in these acts are only interested in tarnishing his reputation for reasons yet to be established, stressing that those people are not interested in finding out the facts surrounding those happenings.
“They believe Jeff Koijee is the gatekeeper and they must get him, but if they can’t get him, they must malign his character, and I condemned the sad incident at the UP headquarters because no person’s life deserves to be taken away, but the facts must be exposed,” he added.
Koijee, at the same time, expressed grave concerns over the involvement of those ex-top officials of the UP, questioning the alleged perpetrators of the UP saga in the presence of the Liberian security sector.
Also CDC’s defeated lawmaker, Acarous Moses Gray, revealed that the CDC will stage a protest and rally over 100,000 ordinary citizens on the streets on Inauguration Day in January 2024.
According to Representative Gray, the protest intends to demand the Unity Party Government for the establishment of the War Crimes Court, the prosecution of Senator Prince Johnson, and an audit of all past and present government performances.
The CDC lawmaker, on Tuesday, November 21, stressed that the CDC’s decision to mobilize a substantial number of citizens for the protest underscores the urgency and importance of their demand of the War Crimes Court.
According to him, that is the first demand on the CDC’s agenda, noting that Liberia has yet to address the grave human rights abuses and war crimes committed during the country’s civil war.
Alongside these demands, the CDC is also calling for an audit of the Weah administration, thus urging President-elect Joseph Boakai and Vice president-elect, Jeremiah Koung, to allow a comprehensive review of their performance during their tenure in government.
