A consortium of nine Civil Society Organizations is calling on President-elect Joseph Boakai to audit Weah’s administration and prosecute corrupt public officials who have abused public resources and assets.
Attorney Mmonbeydo Joah, head of Organization for Women and Children, said they are calling for an objective and inclusive process that ensures public resources and assets corrupted are retrieved and used for the benefit of Liberians.
Atty. Joah is strongly recommending that the audit process be extended to the previous Unity Party administration of officials that abused public trust then.
Meanwhile, the outgoing President, George Weah, advices President-elect Joe Boakai against targeting former officials, saying the CDC Government did not prosecute past officials, as a means of maintaining peace.
During a church service on Sunday, incumbent Weah said his Government did not prosecute past officials as a means of maintaining the peace of the country, urging the UP Administration to do the same.
Weah’s Statement is in reaction to the incoming government’s strong stance on ensuring an audit of the past administration, including the CDC and officials allegedly involved with corruption.
