The National Elections Commission has announced 5107 polling places constituting eighty six percent of the total of 5890 polling places with a remaining 14 percent to determine who wins Liberia’s 2023 elections.
CDC George Weah and UP Joseph Boakai have competed in what appears an intense electoral battle ranging from the first round of voting on October 10 alongside 18 others and into the run-off on November 14, 2023.
The latest results, announced by the NEC showed that Boakai has 712,741 votes, constituting 50.58 percent compared to Weah’s 696,520 votes, representing 49.42 percent of the total votes tallied so far.
According to the NEC’s statistics, there are 387 polling places remaining in Boakai’s strongholds labelled as Grand Cape Mount, 24 polling places; Montserrado, 207 polling places, and Nimba County, 156 polling places, but Gbarpolu was not announced by the NEC.
While the polling places perceived to be Weah’s strongholds are Sinoe County, 38 polling places; River Gee, 1 polling place; Rivercess, 13 polling places; Maryland, 1 polling place; Grand Kru, 28 polling places, and Grand Gedeh, 34 polling places, totaling 115 polling places.
Grand Bassa County is the battleground between the two candidates, as 216 of 405 Grand Bassa polling places have been announced, remaining 189 polling places.
Meanwhile, the total valid votes tallied so far are 1,409,261, with an invalid vote count of 22,127, leaving the Commission with only a few polling places to be announced in the coming days.
