Campuses Deserted In Nimba

By Solomon T. Gaye.
With the reopening of schools for the 2023-2024 academic school year, a worrying trend has followed, as many of the public schools operating under the Nimba School System have been deserted.
Speaking to this paper in Ganta, Elder Peter Sahn explained that since school resumed, many of the public school operating in various towns along the Bain-Garr Education District 1 and 2, remain closed, with administrators nowhere to be seen.
“Nengben Public School, Kpen Senior High School, Flompa Public Senior High School, and Gbadin Public Elem. And Jr. High School, are all closed without reason,” a concerned lady disclosed.
Nimba School System boasts at least 435 public schools, with over 120 private and community schools.
The school system, which contains education districts, is monitored by 13 district education officers, working under the supervision of County Education Officer, Moses Dologbaye.
According to reports from Karnplay in Gbellay -Geh Education District, many of the government operated elementary, junior high, and senior high school campuses remain closed, deserted by school administrations and students.
However, St. Lawrence Catholic Senior High School, operating in Ganta along with few private schools, is in session.
When this Paper contacted Bain- Garr DEO, Abel Legay, on the issue, he promised to tour Bain-Garr Education District 1, to establish the reason(s) for desertion when schools should be open and operating.
When this Paper contacted the Bain- Garr Education District 2 office in Dagamond Town, teachers informed us that DEO, Timothy Karlie, had gone out for business.
However, the County Education Officer, Moses Dologbaye, was adamant that he had overseen the reopening of all public, private, and community schools in the county, and the administrators did not desert their duties, as generally assumed, but rather, the students have been absent.
“My teachers working with Ministry Of Education are on campus, but parents are not sending their children to school,” Dologbaye stressed, but he promised to create more awareness on the matter.
