By Solomon T. Gaye.

Cocopa Rubber Plantation in Gbannah Clan, District 8 in Nimba, has embarked on the distribution of rubber cups and acid water to rubber farmers in that part of the county.

The distribution kicked off at the Cocopa Rubber Plantation in Camp One over the weekend, as farmers from various districts poured in to receive their consignments.

Speaking for many of the farmers in Cocopa during the distribution exercise, Rufus Z. Yarkpah expressed gratitude to the management of the company for the kind gesture towards farmers that are engaged in rubber farming in the county.

“I’m very happy to receive over one thousand rubber cups, five gallons of acid water, which was provided to me by the company freely; this exercise will help many farmers to improve their rubber plantations in Liberia,” Yarkpah disclosed.

Speaking on the same issue, farmer, D. Meanwon Yeanay, thanked the company for the distribution of free rubber cups and acid water to over 300 rubber farmers from various electoral districts in the county.

According to farmer Yeanay, the good news regarding the free distribution of agriculture materials to farmers by the company will be broadcast on many of the community radio stations, to inform others that are engaged in rubber farming.

Cocopa Rubber Plantation is a company in Liberia, with a factory which exports processed rubber through the port of Monrovia.

Since the construction of the factory, many of the rubber farmers who used to carry their rubber crops for sale to Weala or Firestone, are now doing business with Cocopa in Nimba County.

During a normal routine at the plantation site in Camp One over the weekend, hundreds of farmers were seen in a happy mood, lining up before the company warehouse during distribution of the materials, under the watchful eyes of the warehouse controller, Joseph Follay.

When this paper contacted Cocopa Administrator, Gondah Nenwah, he explained that the exercise was geared towards the improvement of the rubber industry, and to encourage rubber farmers to bring in more rubber crops to the company for factory production.

Administrator Gondah added that the distribution of the materials was done in collaboration with Ministry Of Agriculture, for the reopening of farms for farmers. According to him, 326 farmers have benefitted from the process so far.
