National Elections Commission (NEC) has declared the People’s Unification Party (PUP’s) Candidate, Victor Varney Watson, the winner of the Saturday, October 5, Senatorial by-election in Grand Cape Mount County.
But it said before Watson is certificated complaints from two other candidates, Simeon Boima Taylor of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), and Sando Wayne of the United People’s Party (UPP) will have to be adjudicated.
The details of the two defeated candidates’ complaints were not disclosed during the announcement of the results.
Meanwhile, NEC’s Chairman Jerome George Korkoya has expressed the Commission’s thanks and appreciation to the Finance and Development Planning Ministry, Senate Committee on Autonomous Agencies, House Committee on Inauguration and Elections, Field staff, Security and the Media as all went well.
He said all of the 171 polling places in the county have reported 100 percent. Of that number, 25,759 votes were cast, of which valid votes were 24, 956 while invalid votes were 803.
Chairman Korkoya said candidates Matthew V. Z. Darblo of the Vision for Liberia Transformation (VOLT) got 2, 148 which accounts for 8.61 percent; Kula Bona Nyei Fofana of the Coalition for Liberia Progress (CLP) received 1, 106 votes which amount to 4.43 percent; and Daoda Vatorma Metzger, an Independent Candidate took 2, 605 which is 10.44 percent.
Others are candidates Simeon Boima Taylor of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) received 4, 932 votes which amount to 19.76 percent; Dabah Mabande Varpilah of the Unity Party (UP) got 3, 291 votes account for 13.19 percent; Victor Varney Watson of the People’s Unification Party (PUP) received 6,920 votes which sum-up to 27.73 percent; and Sando Wayne of the United People’s Party (UPP) took 3, 954 which is 15.84 percent
