The Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP) has for the first time presented cash prizes to winners and best performers from the July 26, Independence Day Children’s Party, held in Monrovia.
The prizes were presented Monday, August 14, 2023 to each of the winners, following an elaborate program at the Executive Pavilion that brought together over 1,500 children from several communities across Montserrado County.
At a brief presentation ceremony held at the Ministry of Gender, Acting Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hassan Karneh, appreciated the Ministry and the First Lady’s Office for the organization of the children’s gathering. Minister Karneh used the occasion to encourage and motivate parents to continue to provide educative direction for the children, so as to allow them demonstrate responsible personalities.
For her part, Assistant Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Maminah Gorlon Carr-Gaye, praised Liberia SoS Children Village for the provision of the cash prizes. Assistant Minister Carr-Gaye also extended special appreciation to the First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Amb. Clar Marie Weah, for the overwhelming support for the successful conduct of the 2023 Independence Day children’s party.
The Assistant Minister further accorded thanks to Minister Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr for affording her the space to accomplish such a huge task. She praised the energetic staff of Gender for the dedication and commitment demonstrated during the hosting of the children’s party.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Madam Blanyonlyn Yegba praised the organization of this year’s children’s party. She said the occasion provided a lot of captivating excitements that brought smiles on the faces of the children. She also extended warmest regards to the office of the First Lady and Liberia SoS Children Village.
The recipients of the cash Prizes included Condo Culture Crew (L$20,000), Medica Liberia Dance Group (L$20,000), School of the Blind, solo winner (L$12,000), and Grace Gospel Dance Group, 2nd Winner (L$10,000).
Individual awards included Francar Neufville, Selection Winner (L$10, 00), Adama Site, Spelling Bee 1st Winner (L$5,000), Teta Harris, Ballet Dance Winner (L$5,000), Mary Choloplay, Recitation Winner (L$5,000) and Lila Walawolu, Spelling Bee 2nd Winner (L$5,000).
This year is the first time cash prizes are awarded to best performers from the Children’s July 26 Independence Day Party.
It can be recalled that on Saturday, July 29, 2023, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, with support from the Office of the First Lady, Amb. Clar Marie Weah, hosted the July 26 Independence Day Children’s party for over one thousand five hundred children from several communities across various districts in Montserrado County.
At the close of the program, several gifts and special presentations were made to best performers on the day, but the cash prizes were reserved for a later date. Following the impressive individual performances and displays on the day, Liberia SoS Children Village officially accepted to provide cash prizes for all the best performers. That commitment was made good on, as the above winners and best performers were presented with several amounts, ranging from L$5,000 to L$20,000.
