The newly dedicated Survival Sports Pitch, located in Clara Town / Doe Community, District 14 of Montserrado, was a place of scenes on Saturday August 5, 2023, when thousands of citizens of River Gee County assembled under the banner “River Gee for Weah Re-Election 2023” to assure President Weah that they will do everything within their reach to secure his second term bid for the Presidency.
Speaking at the program, the Chief Organizer of the River Gee For Weah Re-election, Jarlawah A.Tonpo, said the singular reason for having the program in Doe Community in honor of President Weah, was to recommit their support to him, indicating that it was based on the origin of President Weah’s career, tracing back in that community, they have decided to bless him at the very field where his career life started from.
“We have gathered here today to bless the President where he started playing football, in this swamp that he has turned into a sports park. This is where all his blessings came from before he was introduced to the world as a star. Now that the campaign process for the upcoming elections has started, citizens of River Gee have come here to bless him and recommit support to his reelection,” Mr. Tonpo stressed.
The program, which was graced by thousands of River Gee citizens and appointed Government officials of the County, was one of the largest gatherings of River Gee natives in recent times.
In the endorsement statement read by the Chairperson of the River Gee for Weah Re-election, Johnson S Willabo, reasons outlined for which the River Gee County will exceed its last 84.6 percent votes given to President Weah in 2017 included;
“As a national team player, you, President Weah, have demonstrated national leadership through coalition building as a statesman; this is the kind of leadership that post-war Liberia needs for national reconciliation and unity.”
“For six years today, Mr. President, as Commander-in-Chief and Chairman of the National Security Council of Liberia, you ably managed the national security of Liberia and steered the state of affairs of the Republic, with firm support from the Liberian people, with no foreign troops on the ground, the first of its kind throughout the history of the Liberian Civil War!”
“Mr. President, in politics, national leadership legacies are essentially measured by the number of neglected and marginalized young people uplifted and brought to prominence – not the wealth acquired. In fact, Mr. President, you are referred to as the feminist President of Liberia because of your sensitivity to gender mainstreaming and equity in Government. All of these qualities make you, Mr. President, so loved as a man of the people; that is also why you shall be re-elected on October 10.”
“Liberia confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on 16 March 2020. By then, Mr. President historic 14 Military Hospital project had produced the first military hospital in the Republic’s history; that Hospital became a major referral point to treat COVID victims, including state officials, ordinary citizens and foreign residents alike. With combined efforts of your dynamic patriotic health practitioners and workers, as well as the entire state security forces, including the Armed Forces of Liberia, you, President George Manneh, led the national campaign and dealt sustained and coordinated national blows at COVID-19
“Mr. President, through the Ministry of Justice, you abolished the “Death Penalty” for Capital offenses (Treason and Murder), thus, amongst other human rights protection records, you have improved Liberia’s human rights records globally, notwithstanding other human rights-related challenges. For this, Liberia has been hailed by the international community.”
“Mr. President, your intervention in the supply of electricity to parts of Liberia, means that in five (5) years, your administration has increased electricity supply in Liberia from 12% to 30% of the population, surpassing all your predecessors. In fact, the cost of electricity, per KW, has been reduced and has thus made electricity much cheaper per KW, in Monrovia and other parts of the country.”
“Under your administration, for the first time in the history of Liberia, all state run universities and colleges, including the University of Liberia, the largest state-owned, and the WVS Tubman Technical University, etc., are all tuitions free, while being state subsidized and fully funded.”
Other key infrastructural development projects of your administration include markets for the poor: The Duport Road Market; Omega-Gobachop Market; Duala Market, just to name a few.
Others include your rural housing projects in several counties: Grand Kru, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, Sinoe, Nimba, etc.
