Scientists at the Central Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) in Suakoko District; Bong County have abandoned work in demand of what they called take home salaries.The Scientists demonstration comes barely a week after aggrieved health workers across Liberia embarked on a go-slow action in demand of their salaries from central government.
According to the spokesperson of the aggrieved CARI Scientists, their take home salaries have been reduced by eighty percent and that the remnant was not forthcoming.
Gregory Doongar told reporters that it would be extremely difficult to return to work if nothing is done to settle the matter due to the economic hardship the Country is currently faced with.
According to Doongar, only three hundred and sixty United States dollars and forty thousand Liberian dollars were received out of their regular one thousand US Dollars and fifty six thousand Liberian Dollars for the months of August and September respectively.
They have also threatened to indefinitely slow down normal research activities at the institute if nothing is done to remedy the matter.
They said the leadership of CARI has over the past allegedly refused to increase their salaries maintaining, it endangers their forward movement as Workers of the Institution.
The aggrieved workers are calling on the Bong County Legislative Caucus headed by Senator Henry Willie Yallah to intervene the situation if their works at CARI should continue.
Furthermore, the aggrieved researchers’ scientists have at the same time called on government for redress if normal research activities at CARI should continue.
They stated that if the Board of CARI doesn’t see reason by increasing their salaries, they will continuous to stage demonstration in other to draw the attentions of government officials.
The situation seems as a litmus test for officer in charge Paulette Finely whose administration is marred by dishonesty and indecent labor practices.
The Central Agriculture Research Institute is currently managed by an Acting Director General, Madam Finely who reports directly to the Minister of Agriculture in a centralized coordination system.
