County Meet 2023 Most Valuable Player, Emmanuel Kings Sieh, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, rescued his residential district from the jaws of defeat in the ongoing Montserrado County League.
The Central Monrovia Boys of District 8 were trailing District 15 by a solitary goal at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, when the youngster finished a slippery attack, tucking it away under the arm of goalkeeper, Vinah Smith, for an even score line.
Sieh’s equalizer in the dying minutes of the second half secured a point for district 8 in the competition, in an entertaining showpiece. With two more games to complete the group fixture for the zone, Logan Town District 15 sits atop zone C with four points from two matches.
District 8 is expected to meet Districts 3 and 16 in their bid to secure one of the two spots available to teams that will meet in the knockout rounds of the off-season tournament.
District 12 has qualified from Zone B of the preliminary stage of the competition by winning her first two games and sitting atop the zone with six points and a goal difference of 3.
Others in good qualifying positions are districts 9, 13, and 15, with four points each and topping their respective zones. Districts 8 and 5 are also in potential qualifying slots as each of them sits second with three points in their respective zones.
Meanwhile, Zone D has been marked by consistent draws, as none of the four districts have been able to win in the two games played across the zone.
Districts 1 and 17, in the first meeting, had a goalless draw, while Districts 4 and 11 had a 2-2 draw. On match day 2, all teams in the group completed fulltime with a one-all draw.
The coming weekend will determine the favorite two teams for the next stage and the defending champions of district 17 will be up against District 11 while Careysburg District 1 will meet District 4.
