The Chief Executive Officer of the Chrisco Holdings Program, Chris Geeply Weah, says moving Liberian football forward remains his focus when he successfully assumes the topmost position of country football.
On Monday, July 3, 2023 Weah reiterated his desire to contest the presidency of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to lead Liberia football back to its glorious days in the expected 2026 election.
The experienced football administrator is one of many leading personalities who have expressed an interest to run for the top position which is being occupied by Mustapah I. Raji at the moment.
I’m ready to move Liberian Football beyond corruption, beyond aid and to create opportunities for all,” he told reporters at his office in Paynesville City.
He stressed the need to restore the integrity of football considering what he termed as turbulent it had gone through over the past years and also develop grassroots football which he believes is the bedrock.
Mr. Weah also emphasized the need to commercialize football in the country, especially the local league which he alleged has suffered a huge setback over the past years under Mustapha Raji as president of LFA.
”I want to tell the football family that you don’t have to be my friend to benefit from my administration, you don’t have to be my friend to benefit from the sponsorship I will be bringing on board.
”I have already without power done my best to help clubs and that’s exactly what I will ensure when I become president,” Mr. Weah stated.
Chris Weah who is one of the front runners for the 2026 elections, announced his intention to compete for the position early this year having made public his blueprints when he successfully assumes power.
Speaking further he said, to improve the national team of Liberia (Lone Star) he will set up a committee to naturalize more players in an effort of improving the performance of the country in international competitions.
“My first priority as LFA president in 2026 will be to naturalize more people to play for the national team,” he told Journalists on Monday.
At the same time, the Chrisco Holdings Program unveiled a 28-seated coaster bus ahead of the 2023/2024 LFA League season which might probably kick off in September this year.
The Chrisco Holdings Program consists of LFA Upper Women’s league clubs, Senior Female Professional, Stages Queen, Chrisco United in the third division and the Chris Geeply Weah All Star.
The bus will serve as the program main source of transport for the upcoming league season.
Transportation of teams to honor away fixtures has one of the many challenges experienced by clubs in various leagues of the LFA.
Speaking about the bus, Mr. Weah said it is one of three he vowed to bring for his program this year.
He further revealed a three-year plan for the program which will see a mini stadium be built worth over US$ 450,000 in Margibi County while it will also prioritize women and youth football development stating, “We will donate jerseys to women’s clubs and provide computer skills for female footballers.”
