BWI Receives Global Recognition

The Liberia’s foremost Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET), Booker Washington Institute (BWI) has received global recognition.
The school has been named in the Top 10 Shortlists for $250,000 World’s Best School in community collaboration by the T4 Education of the United Kingdom (UK) in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, Yayasan Hasanah and the Lemann Foundation.
Vikas Pota, founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes disclosed in a statement addressed to Dr. Harris Fomba Tarnue, Principal of BWI on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
It stated that schools shortlisted for the World’s Best School Prizes do not matter where they can be found or what they teach.
The top three finalists for each of the five World’s Best School Prizes will be announced in September 2023 followed by the winners in October and that they will be chosen based on rigorous criteria by a judging academy of distinguished leaders across the world.
They will include academics, educators, NGOs, social entrepreneurs, government, civil society, private sector and the $250, 000 will be shared equally at $50,000 among the winners of the five prizes.
According to the communication, all of the schools have one thing in common which is a strong school culture and that their leaders know how to attract and motivate exceptional educators, inspire change and build excellent teaching as well as learning environment.

Liberian school and the culture it cultivates,” the statement added.
The T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes further pointed out that the government technical secondary school in Kakata City, is empowering students with the necessary skills and knowledge to break the chain of poverty and unemployment.
According to T4 Education and World’s Best School Prizes survey, every year with over sixty percent of BWI Graduates successfully launched their own businesses and or secured employment while others moved into tertiary education and as such, the school has become a beacon of hope in Liberia’s job market and youth advancement in general.
The World’s Most Prestigious Education Prizes maintained that community collaboration, Environmental Action, innovations including overcoming adversity and also supporting healthy Lives-celebrate schools everywhere for the pivotal role that they play in developing the next generation of learners for their enormous contributions to society especially in the wake of COVID, so the prizes were established to share the best practices of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference in their communities.
The renowned educational organizations indicated that BWI’s academic-TVET Program is a platform for job creation and entrepreneurship among its students with emphasis on agriculture, engineering construction including hospitality management, business education, computer science along with educational leadership among others.
