The Movement for One Liberia (MOL) officially endorsed the Presidential bid of the Unity Party (UP) Joseph Nyumah Boakai and MRD Senator Jeremiah Koung in the October Presidential and Legislatives elections.
The colorful event held over the weekend, at the MOL Party headquarters in Congo Town, brought together several members of the opposition including Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence, and Gbarpolu County Senator, Gbotoe Kanneh among others.
Officially making the pronouncement, MOL political leader said she and her party’s officials, following series if engagement and consultation decided to willingly support the presidential bid of the Boakai-Koung ticket on grounds like many other Liberians, they need a new and better Liberia.
She stressed unless Liberian collectively work together to make Amb. Boakai President comes 2023 to change the Weah-Taylor administration; the country will never be able to create and experience the real change and the new Liberia all Liberians are yearning for.
“So, we are here to announce to the nation that we, the Movement for One Liberia political party have decided to join forces with the Liberty Party, the MDR party and the Unity Party to endorse Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai candidacy for the presidency of the republic of Liberia,” Madam Cooper announced.
She asked rhetorically, “Let me ask the question again, how do we, the people, create real change in the nation if we don’t elect a statesman with clean and Godly heart coupled with the vision, love and passion to deliver the change we all so desire?
According to her, she and her party’s officials are all of the strongest conviction that Boakai will not abandon the struggle of the ordinary Liberians but will instead work with the other branches of government to address the livelihood of the citizens.
She explained that over the years, majority of those who rose to the positions of power through elections and appointments have not put country first, instead themselves and as such, the need to change the narrative can never be overemphasized.
Madam Cooper asserted, “I know that you have been told over and over, time after time that nothing can change about the current situation in Liberia, that there is no need to try change anything but should just grab your own and go when you get any opportunity.”
“But I say to you today that the time for real change could not be more urgent than now because the current governance structure in place is a failure and betrayal of the founding purpose of this nation, which is love of liberty, love for country and love for people of this country,” she expressed.
“So, we must put an end to the wrong governance structure of this country and must make government work for everyone, particularly for you, the ordinary Liberians because you have been left out for decades,” Cooper stated.
“Throughout this journey, you have not allowed your spirit to die. You never waver for your desire for true freedom and equal opportunities for better Liberia and your reward is right ahead of you,” she concluded.
In his acceptance speech, the UP standard bearer Boakai expressed excitement and appreciation to Madam Cooper and her party for the endorsement of his candidacy for the presidency of the country.
According to him, it’s necessary and important that all well-meaning and patriotic Liberian rally forces with him to rescue Liberia on grounds that the country has averagely sunk under the leadership Weah and the CDC.
“I am excited today and I want to tell you thank you for the bold steps that you have taken. It’s now time that all Liberians join us to rescue this country. Some of them asked the last time what are we rescuing? We want to rescue this country from drugs, economic backwardness among others,” Amb. Boakai added.
Meanwhile, Senator Kanneh in attendance for the ceremony pledged her support and endorsed the Boakai-Koung ticket for the upcoming polls.
