Twenty-five young Liberian diplomats vetted from among dozen others from various national student bodies are expected to leave the country for a three-week diplomatic training from May 9-25, 2023 in China.
This followed the formal launch of the Young Diplomat Training Initiative (YDTI) Program by the government which is intended to build the capacity of many university graduates who are emerging as diplomats.
Foreigner Minister, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah told the Information Ministry’s regular press briefing yesterday in Monrovia that the program will help Liberians who are desirous of serving their country in the diplomatic cycle at both local and internationally levels.
He said the 25 young Liberians who include 14 females and 11 males are expected to study at one of China’s premier universities.
Kemayah stated, among many things, that the participants were vetted from various national organizations including the Liberian National Student Union (LINSU), Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), the University of Liberia Student Union (ULSU) and the counties’ University Student Unions.
He claimed that all of the counties are represented among the first batch of participants who were selected for the training program in China and that shall be a continuous initiative in the future.
“We are developing emerging diplomats for the country by building their capacities at both local and international level to serve their native land,” Kemayah noted.
However, it was not known whether those vetted came from or are students of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) or not which is responsible to train the country’s emerging diplomats.
