A Non-Governmental Organization has presented to the Nimba Detachment of the Liberia National Police (LNP) a brand new vehicle thereby replacing the one that got damaged long ago.
The Toyota Pick-up was given for the operations of the Ganta Detachment with the intent of assisting the police during their night patrols as well as responding to other security operations in the county and its surroundings.
Since the previous vehicle got damaged, police operations especially in the city of Ganta had been hampered as criminals, commonly known as zogos who terrorize peaceful residents in most parts of the city could not be pursued thereby causing the zogos to take over the entire city and its adjacent communities.
Some of the notorious places are the Ganta Methodist Church vicinity and the central city cycle are areas that are heavily infested with criminals who are involved in all sort of deadly activities leaving the habitants in fear of their lives.
Most of the community residents have blamed the situation on the limited if not lack of police presence especially during the night hours. Since 2017, Ganta city continues to register high rate of criminal activities such as rape, theft of properties and murder couple with mob violence that had left several persons affected with several others victimized through death.
LNP’s Ganta Detachment has complained about the limited presence of the workforce and logistics in the county to respond to crimes and mob justice in the county. Early 2018, two young men believed to be heart-men were stoned to death by angry mob while on a commercial vehicle under what was thought as heavy police escort enroute to Sanniquellie for further investigations.
Meanwhile, several residents in Ganta have accused the Police of being responsible for the deaths of the suspects due to delays by police officers to respond to crime scenes.
Receiving the vehicle, a senior officer of the Police in Ganta, Adolphus Zuah, thanked the business community, the Arcellor Mittal Company and other authorities of Nimba County for the efforts rendered to have the old vehicle replaced for the smooth operations of security in that part of the country.
