The National Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson, Davidetta Brown Lansanah has reported that 1,435,209 Liberians were registered in the phase I counties and of that number, 711,410 were females and 723,799 were males.
Giving the breakdown in phase one, she reported, “Bomi 604,395; Gbarpolu 50,887; Grand Bassa 10,577,012; Grand Cape Mount 86,589; Margibi 184,425; and Montserrado County, 89,121 making the total of 1 million Liberians registered.”
The NEC boss who made the revelation when she provided updates on Phase-one of the Voters Biometric Registration (VBR) the exercise which cuts across six of the 15 counties admitted that there were some glitches especially with the introduction of new technology.
Reporting on the exercise in the counties which include Montserrado, Bomi, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount counties, the NEC Chairperson, stated that the Commission on March 20, 2023, inaugurated the first-ever biometric system in Liberia’s electoral process in six counties and the process was completed on April 9, 2023.
She told newsmen that these counties constitute a total of 1,065 registration centers, which were duly received, verified, and tallied and added that the centers account for 51.20% of the total number of registration centers across the 15 political subdivisions.

“This figure is suggested to change due to ongoing deduplication ex and adjudication process,” The Commissioner stated.
The Commission announced that on the issue of deduplication exercise has started at the Headquarters and the aim of this exercise is to remove all of the duplicated applicants.
She however, assured the public that deduplication is in full swing and the commission will do everything to calm down on perpetrators-noting that the duplication is a crime, and those involved will be turned over the Ministry of Justice.
However, the Commission is advising Liberians under the ages or 18 and above, not to be involved in the duplication because all perpetrators that will be caught will be sent to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution.
