The West Point Women for Health and Development Organization (WPWHDO), joined the rest of the world in celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) at the Township of West-Point.
The celebration which started with a parade from the WPWHDO office to the WestPoint Town Hall yesterday ended up with an indoor program with a discussion from different speakers.
The program which was supported by Kvinna Till Kvinna was under the National Theme: Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality, with WPWHDO theme: Support Women Digital Technology Education for Gender Equality.
Giving the overview of the program, the Executive Director for WPWHDO, Nelly Cooper said that IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
According to her, the day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity, and that significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
Madam cooper added that all women need to be recognized in the society for the good things they are doing and continue to do.
She maintained that women are great people in the world at large because they have been given a great task that even men don’t have the power to do.
“Women were given the task by God Almighty to bring forth children into the world, and in doing that; it has not been easy on their part which makes women important,” she said.
WPWHDO boss added that women are not supposed to be maltreated by men because wives are supporters and helpers for their husbands and not slaves.
Madam Cooper further mentioned that women experience violence in many ways from physical abuse to sexual assault and from financial abuse to sexual harassment or trafficking, and that whenever all these happen to women; it takes serious long-term physical and emotional effects.
She then thanked all her partners for their collaboration and advised all men to work side by side with the women in order to make things become better.
Making separate remarks; the president for the Women Township of West Point, Kulah M. Borbor, Board Chair Mary Gbollie added that they are very happy celebrating the Women’s Day because women are great people in the society.
According to them, gone are those days when women were not allowed to rule in the society or the nation at large, but now they have realized that women are now leading more than how they taught it would be.
“We are so happy for all the great achievements that women have gained for the past years and we hope that women voices will continue be heard in the country,” they said.
They maintained that as the day is celebrated they are proud of all women and assured them that they have reassured their commitment by standing by themselves in making sure that the rights of women are respected in the society.
Meanwhile, the students that were present and some of the male group organization expressed their gratitude to all women around the world for their great impacts in their lives and the world at large.
